Indians Win Regional Championship
St. Francis 36 - Meade 14
On Saturday, November 3, the St. Francis Indians took a long bus trip to Meade, Kansas to face the Buffaloes in the regional championship game. The Indians left St. Francis at 7:00 AM, played the game at 2:00 PM, and arrived back home at 10:30 PM. The day involved a lot of seat time on the activity bus, but also resulted in another big win for the Indians.
St. Francis beat Meade 36 - 14 to capture the regional football championship. Meade gave the Indians some tough resistance, but the Indians moved the ball on long controlled drives and eventually scored their first touchdown on 1 yard run by Ted Crabtree late in the first quarter. Trent Raile ran for the conversion points.
St. Francis scored twice in the second quarter. Trevor Hilt scored on a 6 yard run (Raile conversion) and David Guthmiller scored from 10 yards out later in the quarter. St. Francis led 22-0 at halftime.
In the third quarter, David Guthmiller scored on a 1 yard plunge (conversion no good) to give St. Francis a 28-0 lead. Meade then began moving the ball by passing effectively against the Indians defense. Meade scored on a 12 yard pass (kick good) to narrow the lead to 28-7. St. Francis answered with another long drive capped by a Hilt run of 3 yards for the touchdown. Crabtree passed to Keaton Frewen for the conversion points. St. Francis led 36-7. Meade scored their second touchdown in the fourth quarter to create a final score of St. Francis 36 - Meade 14. For the game, St. Francis gained 418 yards rushing behind their powerful offensive line.
The next game for the Indians will be Saturday, November 10th, when they will host Minneapolis on Greene Field in St. Francis. Kickoff is set at 3:00 PM.
