Colby Sweeps Sainty Basketball Teams

On Thursday, December 21, the St. Francis basketball teams traveled to Colby to play the Eagles.  Colby swept the St. Francis teams in all four games by decisive margins.  In the girls varsity game, the defending state champion Lady Eagles jumped all over the Lady Indians early and never looked back.  Scores at the quarter breaks were 8-22, 13-45, and 16-69.  Final score:  St. Francis 23 - Colby 75.  The Lady Eagles used their superior height and skills to move the ball efficiently and earned numerous shots from close range as well as to defend the much shorter Lady Indians.  The game was shortened by a running clock due to the 30 point rule.  Sidnee Crabtree led all Sainty scorers with 9 points.  Stevens (16), Gee (13), Kaus (12), and Manzanec (10) rounded out a very balanced Colby attack.  Colby won the JV girls game in two quarters, 8-34.

In boys action, the Eagles jumped out to an early 2-11 lead, but St. Francis closed the gap to 16-18 at the end of the 1st quarter.  In the second quarter, Colby demonstrated excellent shooting skills and jumped out to a halftime lead of 26-45.  The Indians played fairly even with the Eagles throughout the second half, but could not recover from the second quarter.  The third quarter ended with St. Francis trailing 41-62.  The final score was St. Francis 50 - Colby 76.  Ted Crabtree (18) and Matt Raile (10) led the Indians in scoring.  The Eagles were paced by Stover with 20 points.  St. Francis lost the JV boys game 11-74.

The teams will not play again until after Christmas Break.
