Varsity Basketball Teams Split With Hoxie
On Friday evening, January 4th, the Hoxie basketball teams visited St. Francis. The varsity teams split with Hoxie--the varsity girls lost to Hoxie while the boys varsity defeated their guests. This was the first action for the teams after the Christmas Break.
In girls action, the game began with Hoxie using full court pressure and gaining a 12-22 advantage by the end of the quarter. Hoxie's fastbreak game gave the Sainty girls trouble throughout the evening. Using their excellent ball handling skills and quickness, Hoxie extended their lead to 20-46 at the halftime break and further to 25-73 at the end of the third quarter. The fourth quarter used a running clock due to the 30 point rule adopted by the NWKL. Hoxie won the contest 30-83. Sidnee Crabtree was the only Lady Indian in double figures with 12 points. The JV girls game was also won by Hoxie 23-33.
In the boys varsity game, St. Francis played well throughout the contest. The Indians jumped out to a 11-6 lead at the end of the first quarter. Using patient execution versus Hoxie's zone defense, the Indians took good shots and extended their lead to 26-12 at halftime. Hoxie changed up defenses throughout the second half, but the Indians adjusted well and led 39-22 at the end of three quarters of play. The Indians went on to win 54-33. Ted Crabtree (14), Trent Kinen (13), and Matt Raile (13) led the Indians with balanced scoring. Matt Weis had 13 to lead Hoxie. Hoxie won the JV boys game 37-42.
Next action for the teams is scheduled for Friday evening, January 11th, in Oakley. Come enjoy the games and support the team!
