Weskan Teams Defeat St. Francis

JV Girls Win

The Weskan varsity basketball teams both defeated the St. Francis teams on Tuesday, January 22, in St. Francis.  The JV girls won their game; the JV boys lost.

In girls varsity action, the Lady Indians hung with a good Weskan team for most of the first half.  Weskan led 10-17 at the end of one quarter of play and 22-33 at halftime.  The second half was all Weskan as the Lady Indians made numerous turnovers and Weskan capitalized with easy baskets.  The score was Weskan 30 - St. Francis 44 with 3:35 remaining in the third period, when several consecutive turnovers by St. Francis allowed Weskan to extend the lead to 30-59 by the end of the period.  Final score was Weskan 72 - St. Francis 45.

Andrea Holzwarth and Sidnee Crabtree each scored 12 for the Lady Indians.  Payton Walker led Weskan with 20, while McKinney and Okeson each had eleven.  The St. Francis JV girls won their game 26-23 in two quarters.

The varsity boys game was somewhat sluggish by both teams with moments of great play mixed in. Weskan led 6-9 at the first quarter break.  Weskan connected on 3 treys in the second period to extend their lead to 8 at halftime (16-24).  The Indians cut the lead to 6 (27-33) with 3:19 remaining in the third, but Weskan recovered and led 31-40 at the end of three quarters of play.  The fourth quarter was evenly played and Weskan won the game 42-51.

Trent Kinen (15), Matt Raile (14), and Ted Crabtree each scored in double figures for the Indians.  Drew Frasier had 19 to lead the Coyotes.  Eric Young scored ten.  The JV boys game was won by Weskan  48-60.

Next action for the teams will be on Tuesday night, January 29th, when the teams play at Brewster.
