Junior High Girls Basketball vs Goodland

8th Grade Team Wins!

On Monday, January 21st, the 8th grade girls team earned a victory over their opponents from Goodland.  The seventh grade girls lost to Goodland.  Both teams are showing continual improvement in many areas of the game.  The next action is scheduled for Thursday, January 24, in Atwood against the teams from Rawlins County.  Comments from Coach Morrow are below.

B Team: Junior High Girls Basketball

Loss to Goodland

1/22/08

5-22

"This game was similar to last week’s Hoxie game in that we played well defensively for most of the game, but we were unable to score many points.  Goodland also played good defense, and we were unable to find open people to pass to.  When we did find someone open, we weren’t able to connect on any shots, at least in the first half.

Our offense was a little more productive in the third quarter, and hit two open shots.  Katie Lambert made a shot from the wing, and Clarice Neitzel scored once from the elbow.  Our other point came from the line when Laura Brunk made the first shot of a 1 and 1.  The game was still in reach by the end of the third quarter, but Goodland’s defense did not let up and kept us from scoring any more points.  We lost the 5th quarter by 2 points."

Win over Goodland: 20-11

"This was another exciting game in many ways.  We hit a couple of shots in the first quarter–one of them a three-pointer–and it looked like we were well on our way season-high night of scoring.  Those impressions were dashed, however, by a scoreless second quarter in which we gave up the lead.  Generally, we had a very poor shooting night in which we missed quite a few lay-ups and other very close shots.

The second half of this game should be a confidence builder for these ladies.  At one point in the third quarter, we found ourselves down by five, still plagued by poor shooting.  Late in that quarter, however, Kaitlyn Figgins and Jenna Hill hit two key shots to pull us to within one point of Goodland.  In the fourth quarter, the press which we had been running all throughout the second half produced several key turnovers, which we were able to convert into points.  Towards the end of the game, when the score was still very tight, Ashlynn Lambert and Hill both stepped up to the free throw line and made two throws.  Those free throws were very important.

This is the first win of the season, but we’re just a handful of points away from being undefeated.

Scoring: Jenna Hill, 10; Ashlynn Lambert, 4; Kaitlyn Figgins, 4; Lexi Hilt, 2."
