Varsity Teams Both Lose to Brewster

JV Boys Win

JV boys action

On Tuesday evening, January 29th, the high school basketball teams competed against the Brewster Bulldogs in Brewster.  The junior varsity boys team was the only St. Francis team to win their game on the evening.  Both JV teams played two quarters only. 

The JV girls game was close throughout.  The score was tied 12-12 at the first quarter break.  Brewster went on to win the game 20-25.

The JV boys led 9-7 at the end of one quarter.  The game was tied at 19 with 1:05 left.  St. Francis forged a 22-19 lead with a few seconds left in the game.  Brewster rushed the ball down the court and hit a three.  The the shot that would have tied the game did not count due to the fact that the Brewster coach called a time out just before the shot.  After another Brewster shot attempt, St. Francis rebounded and hit a free throw to ice the game.  Final score:  St. Francis 23 - Brewster 19.

Varisty girls action

In the varsity girls game, St. Francis jumped out to an early lead 16-12 at the end of one quarter of play.  The Lady Indians continued to shoot well and trailed by 4 at the halftime break 28-32.  The second half saw the Lady Indians shooting percentages fall while Brewster controlled the boards and caused numerous St. Francis turnovers.  The Lady Indians fell behind 42-52 at the end of three quarters and lost the game 48-65.  The Lady Indians were led in scoring by Sidnee Crabtree with 17 points.  Elizabeth Gienger and Jami Pevler each had 7 points.  Erskine (20) and Allen (10) led the Lady Bulldogs in scoring.

Varsity boys action

The boys varsity game was close throughout.  St. Francis jumped out to a 13-10 1st quarter lead and trailed 24-26 at halftime.  The Indians fought hard and regained the lead by the end of three quarters 36-34.  The game was tight to the very end with Brewster escaping with a narrow 49-50 victory.  Trent Raile (17), Trent Kinen (13), and Ted Crabtree (12) each scored in double figures for the Indians.  Brewster was led by Collett with 17 and Williams with 13.
