In the seventh grade game, a good Quinter team easily defeated the young Lady Indians. In eighth grade action, the St. Francis girls executed well in the closing minutes of the contest to gain a hard earned overtime win over the Quinter Lady Buldogs. Coach David Morrow's comments follow.
B Team: Junior High Girls Basketball
Loss to Quinter
2/7/08
5-30
"We were once again outmatched by superior talent. Quinter has a good team that will probably compete well in the upcoming league tournament. All throughout the game, we did some things fairly well. We moved the ball well at times and fought for loose balls most of the time. Our kids also played defense well in some stretches. Had we been able limit our turnovers and score more consistently, we could have had better luck against the Bulldogs. These young ladies work hard to improve, but our lack of experience continues to be our greatest obstacle."
Scoring: Clarice Neitzel, 2; Jandy Dunn, 2; Ally Northrup, 1.
A Team: Junior High Girls Basketball
Win over Quinter

24-19: Overtime
"This was the second overtime game that I can remember since I’ve coached junior high. It was a very exciting game and what made it stand out above the others (besides the fact that we won) was the resilience we showed in tying up the score and taking care of business in overtime.
Once again, we found ourselves down at halftime. We started the game off by giving up a few easy baskets. Quinter shot well early, but we were able to pick up the intensity by the end of the half and close to within one point of the Bulldogs by halftime.
In the third quarter, we had our chances to score and missed a few easy shots, but we didn’t manage to score a single point. Quinter scored four more to take a 12-7 lead by the beginning of the fourth quarter.
We were hitting our stride by the fourth quarter, scoring 12
points in the period. The last few minutes of the contest were very
exciting, and our girls showed a lot of poise and good game
management. We were able to run off some time and hold a two-point
lead into the last 30 seconds of the game, but Quinter made a tough
shot with just a few seconds left to tie it up, forcing an overtime
period. In the fourth quarter and in overtime, we had some players
step up and play as good of basketball as most good junior high
players are capable of. Kaitlyn Figgins scored 9 of her 11points,
and Jenna Hill scored 5 of her 6 points in the last 9 minutes
(overtime periods are 3 minutes long in junior high). Trista Orth
scored 3 of her 5 points in that same timeframe.
This was a great effort all around, and these kids deserve credit
for showing some toughness in the way they finished the game."
Scoring: Kaitlyn Figgins, 11; Jenna Hill, 6; Trista Orth, 5; Ashlynn Lamber, 2.
