Wrestling Team Places 4th in Regionals
Six Qualify For State
The St. Francis Indian wrestling team placed 4th in the 3-2-1A Regional Wrestling Tournament in Wakeeney on Friday and Saturday (Feb, 15th and 16th). St. Francis scored 127 points. Norton won the tournament with 226 1/2 points. Other top team placings were: 2nd-Scott City-160; 3rd-Oakley-133; 5th-Oberlin-99 1/2; 6th-Lakin-81; 7th-Rawlins County-78; and 8th-Hoxie-70.
Six Indian wrestlers placed in the top four positions and thus qualified for the state wrestling tournament in Hays, next weekend. Individuals placing in the top four positions were:
Darris Keller 4th at 112
Cody Sherlock 3rd at 119
Gavin Smull 2nd at 135
Jesse Pacheco 1st at 145
Justin Sherlock 1st at 152
David Guthmiller 2nd at 189
Other team members scored valuable points contributing to the total team score. Indian coach Mike Frewen was selected Regional Wrestling Coach of the Year. Congratulations to these wrestlers and the coaching staff for a fine performance. Good luck next weekend!
