Indians Win District Championship
St. Francis 52 - Rawlins County 16
On Thursday evening, October 30th, the St. Francis Indians hosted the Rawlins County Buffaloes in the District 15 Championship game on Greene Field in St. Francis. Both teams were undefeated in district play entering the contest.
Rawlins County came ready to play and scored on their first two possessions. Rawlins County scored with 9:20 on the clock in the first quarter on a 39 yard touchdown (conversion good), and again with 4:08 remaining in the 1st quarter on a 70 yard screen pass (conversion good). Rawlins County took an early 0-16 lead.
The Indians fought back and dominated the game after the first quarter. With 2:32 on the clock in the 1st quarter, Matt Raile scored on a 59 yard bootleg around the left end (conversion no good). On the next St. Francis possession (7:20 2nd), Trevor Hilt scored on a 2 yard run (conversion no good). Rawlins County led 12-16. On the next Rawlins County possession, the Buffaloes fumbled deep in their own territory and the Indians recovered. Two plays later (6:30 2nd) Trent Raile scored on a 2 yard run (Trevor Hilt conversion run) to take the lead for good. On the ensuing kickoff, St. Francis executed an onside kick. The ball deflected off a Rawlins County player and the Indians recovered. Two plays later (5:23 2nd), Trent Raile scored on a 52 yard run (Hilt conversion). St. Francis led at halftime, 28-16.
St. Francis scored early and often in the third quarter. With 10:45 remaining, Trent Raile scored on a 69 yard run. Cody Sherlock ran for the conversion points. With 7:13 on the clock, Sherlock scored from 45 yards out and again with 1:25 remaining from 43 yards (Sherlock conversion).
St. Francis won the game, and the District 15 championship, 52-16. They will now play Decatur County in St. Francis on Tuesday, November 4th.
