Junior High Basketball Teams Show Improvement

Eighth grade team

The junior high boys basketball season is underway.  The season began on Thursday, November 6th, when the teams hosted the Decatur County Red Devils.  The seventh grade lost to Decatur County (Oberlin) by a score of 13-36 and the eighth grade lost 19-46.  Both teams did many good things, but neither executed well enough to earn a victory.

On Tuesday, November 11th, the teams played Quinter in St. Francis.  The both teams showed large improvements in many areas when compared to the first games of the season.  The seventh grade played very well but lost 29-39.  The Indians trailed 9-18 at halftime.The Indians pulled to within 6 points late in the game but could never take the lead.  Scoring for the seventh grade team were:  Mason Schiltz 15, Wyatt Landenberger 6, Jacob Butler 3, Lane Hoffman 3, and Tyler Lee 2.

The eighth grade defeated Quinter by a score of 21-18.  The first quarter ended in a nine all tie.  St. Francis led at halftime 15-12.  Neither team showed much offense in the third quarter with Quinter outscoring the Indians 2-0.  St. Francis won the fourth quarter 6-4 to win the game 21-18.  Individual scoring for the Indians was very balanced with the following atheletes scoring:  Dylan Peter 6, Zach Gienger 4, Dillon Straub 4, Foster Grant 3, Dylan Wolaver 2, and Keegan Sherlock 2.

The next competition for the junior high teams will be in Oakley on Thursday, November 13th.  The eighth grade will scrimmage in Goodland with several other teams on Saturday, November 15th, to provide court action for an official's clinic.  NO spectators will be allowed at the scrimmages.
