Lady Indians Defeat Quinter
Boys Lose
The Lady Indians defeated the Quinter girls in high school basketball on Friday, February 20th in Quinter. The game was very close throughout with the largest margin being eight points. Neither team shot very well from the free throw line--Quinter was 0-9 while St. Francis was only 11-26.
St. Francis jumped out to a 13-8 lead after one quarter and held a slim 23-22 lead at half time. The Lady Indians had earned a four point advantage (33-29) after three quarters, but the Lady Bulldogs kept playing hard and tied the game at 34 all with 5 minutes remaining. St. Francis then made several good plays to gain a 41-34 lead with 3:45 to go and led by 8 points (42-34) with just over two minutes remaining. Quinter mounted another comeback and cut the St. Francis lead to 42-38 at the one minute mark. The Lady Indians held on for a 47-40 victory.
St. Francis was led in scoring by Sidnee Crabtree with 15 points; Elizabeth Gienger scored 11. Quinter was led by Hayley Harvey with 16 and Hannah Nemechek with 10.
In the varsity boys game, the Indians hung with the highly rated Quinter Bulldogs for a while, but just could not keep pace. The Quinter boys have only lost one game this season (to Colby in overtime).
Quinter jumped out to a 0-11 lead with less than two minutes gone in the game, but the Indians executed better and Quinter only lead by eight (8-16) at the quarter's close. The Indians cut the lead to 13-16 with 6:32 left in the 2nd, but the Bulldogs advanced the spread to 15-32 by half time. The Indians committed numerous turnovers which were costly during this time. In the third quarter, the Indians cut the Bulldog lead to six points, but trailed 29-38 at the third quarter break. Quinter controlled the fourth quarter, out scoring the Indians 5-20, and went on to win 34-58.
Trent Raile (13 points) and Trent Kinen (12 points) led the Indians in scoring. Tim Roesch led the Bulldogs with 15 points. Ten Bulldog players scored in the game.
St. Francis lost both the C-team and junior varsity boys games.
