Young Indians Score 34 in Loss to Dundy County
The junior high football team scored 34 points in Benkelman on Thursday, September 10th, in a losing effort. Dundy County scored 46. Dundy County (DC) scored first on a 55 yard run in the 1st period (conversion good) to take an early 0-8 lead. St. Francis scored on the next possession on a 61 yard run by Derek Queen to make the score 6-8 (conversion no good). DC again scored in the first period on a 43 yard run (conversion good). The score at the end of the first period was SF 6 - DC 16.
In the second period, Mason Schiltz scored on a 52 yard scamper to close the gap to 12-16 (conversion no good). DC scored twice more in the second period on runs of 56 yards and 2 yards. St. Francis trailed at halftime 12-32.
Dundy County extended their lead to 12-46 by scoring on their first two possessions of the third quarter on a run of 6 yards and a pass interception for another touchdown.
Derek Queen scored his second touchdown of the evening on a 55 yard run in the third quarter. Cade Bracelin ran for the conversion points. The score advanced to 20-46.
In the fourth quarter, Mason Schiltz scored on a 70 yard run (conversion failed) to make the score 26-46. With 0:20 seconds remaining in the game, Wyatt Landenberger scored on a 33 yard carry. Bracelin again ran for the conversion points. Final score: St. Francis 34 - Dundy County 46.
The young Indians will play next Thursday, September 17th, in Oakley at 5:30 PM.
