Fifteen Students Have Essays Selected for Publication
School to Receive "Writing Achievement Award"
At the end of last year in eighth grade English, Mrs. Gibson's students submitted an essay (no more than 250 words on their choice of topic) to be entered in a summer contest. Fifteen out of 28 eighth grader's (present day freshman) essays were selected to be published in an anthology book. Over half of the 2008-2009 eighth grader's essays will be published.
Less than 50% of the essays submitted are selected to be published. The contest consisted of over 2000 entries and had 1141 that were accepted to be published. Of those, 458 were eighth graders.
"This is absolutely fantastic for these 'eighth grade' students. I'm so very proud of them and their work. This is a great accomplishment for a student in junior high."
They are also eligible now for prize money and have the opportunity to be selected for the "Top Ten Essay".
A comment made by the Creative Communication that the list of students that have been accepted to be published represents a lot of talent, hard work, and dedication from them.
Since over 50% of the class was accepted to be published, St. Francis will receive a "Writing Achievement Award". This honor is given to the top 10% of the schools who have entered the contest. The schools are chosen based on the number and quality of the entries accepted.
