Young Tracksters Complete Well at Atwood
Two New School Records Set
Two new school records and many additional excellent performances were turned in at the Atwood Quad junior high track and field meet on Thursday, April 29th. Brianna Cooks unloaded a 35' 0" heave in the 7th grade girls shot put (6 lb.) to establish a new school record. The old record was 34' 4" set by Lexee Reichert in 2006. Dallas Reed also eclipsed her own record set two days earlier in the 7th grade girls pole vault to improve her school record to 7' 0". St. Francis athletes set forty-one personal records during the day.
St. Francis athletes won nine events at the meet. In the eighth grade boys division, Derek Queen won the 100m and 400m with times of 12.18 and 58.24 respectively. Mason Schiltz won the pole vault clearing a personal best of 10' 6". Lane Hoffman placed 5th in the pole vault clearing 6' 6". Wyatt Landenberger placed 2nd in the triple jump with a distance of 31' 7 3/4" and Austin White place 6th in the event at 25' 9 1/2". St. Francis took the top four places in the 100m. Derek Queen won the event, Logan Lampe place 2nd (12.37), Eric Hart 3rd (13.84), and Lenny Olivares 4th (14.40). Logan Lampe also place 2nd in the 400m with a time of 1:01.68. Lane Hoffman placed 2nd in the 1600m with a 6:16.58 clocking. Logan Lampe won the high jump clearing 5' 2" while Mason Schiltz earned 4th by jumping 4' 6". In the shot put, Scott Warren placed 3rd (32' 10 1/4"), Tyler Lee 4th (29' 9"), and Lenny Olivares 5th (29' 1 1/2"). Derek Queen also placed 2nd in the 200m with a good time of 25.74 while Logan Lampe earned 3rd at 26.09. In the discus throw, Tyler Lee placed 2nd with a good throw of 94' 6". Derek Queen (2nd) and Wyatt Landenberger (4th) each placed in the long jump with distances of 16' 5 1/2" and 15' 1/2" respectively. Austin White placed 2nd in the 3200m with a time of 15:32.61. The boys 4 X 100m relay team placed 2nd (55.50).
In the 7th grade boys division, Cade Bracelin won the discus with a toss of 113' 1". Also placing in the discus throw were Kyler Zweygardt-3rd (89' 7") and Shakota Blanka-5th (78' 4"). Bracelin also won the shot put with a throw of 34' 10"and the 200m with a time of 30.10. Riley Shay placed 5th in the 200m at 38.21. Kyler Zweygardt placed 3rd in the shot put with a distance of 32' 3". Bracelin earned a second place finish in the 100m (13.34) while Kyler Zweygardt placed 5th (15.58).
In the 7th grade girls division, Brianna Cooks won the shot put and Dallas Reed won the pole vault setting new school records. In the 100m, Valerie Wurm placed 2nd with a 14.06 clocking. Echo Jones (3rd, 14.31), McKayla Taylor (4th, 14.75), and Dallas Reed 95th, 15.83) also placed in the 100m. Justice Wiley ran 1:15.62 to place 3rd in the 400m. Echo Jones won the long jump with a leap of 13' 6". Valerie Wurm (3rd, 13' 3 3/4") and KcKayla Taylor (12' 2 1/2") also placed in the event. In the high jump, Dallas Reed cleared 4' 2" to earn a 2nd place finish. Justice Wiley earned third with a height of 4' 0". St. Francis took the first three places in the pole vault. Dallas Reed won first place, Valerie Wurm (6' 0") second, and Kyla Bandel (5' 0") third. Mariah Beikman placed 4th in the triple jump with 20' 3". The girls 4 X 200m relay team (Kyla Bandel, Mariah Beikman, Justice Wiley, and Ashlee Orth) placed 2nd with a time of 2:24.00. Three Lady Indians placed in the 100m hurdles. McKayla Taylor earned 2nd (18.81), Echo Jones 3rd (19.50), and Dallas Reed 5th (22.09). Valerie Wurm placed 4th in the shot with a distance of 25' 6". In the 200m, St. Francis had three place winners: Echo Jones 2nd (30.99), McKayla Taylor 3rd (31.24), and Ashlee Orth 5th (37.44). Justice Wiley ran 3:13.43 in the 880 to place 3rd.
The were no place winners in the 8th grade girls division.
