Junior High Track Athletes Set Several New School Records at Colby

The junior high track teams traveled to Colby on Monday, May 3rd, for a make-up track meet. This meet was postponed from April 22nd due to weather conditions. St. Francis athletes set four new school records during the day.

Mason Schiltz cleared 11' 0" in the 8th grade boys pole vault to surpass the old record (10' 10") held by Derek Ross set in 2001. Brianna Cooks heaved the 6 lb shot 36' 6 3/4" to eclipse her own record set four days earlier. 

A new event this year is the 200m hurdles (five hurdles using the same spacing as the high school 300m hurdles). Since this was the first meet that the new event had been run, new records were set by Wyatt Landenberger and Justice Wiley. Wyatt ran 34.47 in the 8th grade boys event to place 4th. Justice ran 35.53 in the 7th grade girls division to place second.

Team results in the 7th grade girls division: 1st--Colby-115; 2nd--Rawlins County-72; 3rd--St. Francis-70; 4th--Grant Junior High (Goodland)-61.

7th grade girls placing in the meet were: Valerie Wurm--1st in the pole vault (6' 6"), 2nd in the 100m (14.34), and 2nd in the long jump (13' 5 1/2'); Echo Jones--1st in the 100m hurdles (18.55), 3rd in the 100m (14.85), and 3rd in the long jump (13' 1"); McKayla Taylor--2nd in the 100m hurdles (19.45), 4th in the 100m (15.03), and 5th in the 200m (31.42); Dallas Reed--5th in the 100m hurdles (21.23); Justice Wiley--2nd in the 200m hurdles (35.53); and Brianna Cooks--1st in the shot put (36' 6 3/4"). The 4 X 200m relay team of Mariah Beikman, Kyla Bandel, McKayla Taylor, and Justice Wiley placed 2nd with at time of 2:20.34.

Team results for the 8th grade girls:  1st--Grant Junior High-142, 2nd--Colby-116, 3rd--Rawlins County-63, 4th--St. Francis-7.

8th grade girls placing in the meet were:  Aly Schlepp--3rd in the 200m (32.06), 4th in the 100m (15.19), and 5th in the long jump (12' 0").

Team results for the 7th grade boys: 1st--Grant Junior High-145, 2nd--Colby-108, 3rd--St. Francis-33, and 4th--Rawlins County- 22. 

7th grade boys placing in the meet were:  Cade Bracelin--1st in the shot put (34' 3"), 1st in the discus throw (120' 10"), 3rd in the 100m dash (14.11), and 4th in the 200m dash (29.04); Kyler Zweygardt--2nd in the shot put (31' 11 1/4"); Shakota Blanka--3rd in the discus (80' 4") and 5th in the shot put (27' 10").

Team results for 8th grade boys: 1st--Grant Junior High-152, 2nd--Colby-103.33, 3rd--St. Francis-58.33, and 4th--Rawlins County-35.

8th grade boys placing in the meet were:  Logan Lampe--2nd in the 100m (12.52), 3rd in the 200m (25.97), 3rd in the 400m (59.05), and 5th in the high jump (4' 8"); Mason Schiltz--1st in the pole vault (11' 0") and 5th in the high jump (4' 8"); Derek Queen--1st in the 100m (12.40), 1st in the 200m (25.42), 1st in the 400m (57.17), and 4th in the long jump (15' 11"); Lane Hoffman--4th in the 1600m (6:25.64) and 5th in the pole vault (6' 6"); and Wyatt Landenberger--4th in the 200m hurdles (34.47).  The 4 X 100m relay team (Wyatt Landenberger, Eric Hart, Mason Schiltz, and Gaten Cooper) placed 3rd with a time of 58.14.

The next competition for the teams will be on May 6th. The teams compete in the St. Francis Quad Track Meet on our home track. Events begin at 3:00 PM.
