Junior High Football Team Defeated by Oberlin
On Thursday, September 2nd, the junior high football team opened their season with a loss to the Decatur Community Red Devils on Oberlin. The score of the game was 0-28. St. Francis had difficulty getting anything going offensively throughout the evening.
Coach Jeff Beims had the following comments on the game: "This may have been one of the ugliest performances I have ever been associated with as a junior high football coach. We gained less than 100 yards total offense against Oberlin, and did not record a first down. Unless you have coached football, it is sometimes difficult to see the importance of fundamentals and proper technique. As fans of the game we look at certain players and think, "Wow! That guy would be a great football player." Yet they never seem to shine. Then we see others excel on the field who seem undersized or slow and wonder how they can stand out among the giants. It's no mystery...it's technique. Good players, whether they look the part or not, understand the importance of good technique on every play. That's was separates the great player from the average one. Coach Morrow and I have tried in a multitude of ways to convince our boys of the importance of the "little things," but for whatever reason they aren't getting it. That's why God invented football practice."
The young Indians will host Rawlins County in St. Francis on Thursday, September 9th. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30 PM. The varsity contest will be followed by a B team 5th quarter. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for students.
