Junior High FB Team Defeats Dundy

On Thursday, September 29th, the junior high football team defeated Dundy County on Greene Field in St. Francis. St. Francis scored once in each quarter of the second half to earn a 12-6 victory. In the third period, Garrett Brunk gathered up a Dundy County fumble and sprinted 55 yards for a touchdown. The 2-point conversion attempt was no good. Brunk also scored in the 4th period on a 26 yard run from scrimmage set up by a punt block.

Coach Kyle Buffington made the following comments on the game, "This was a big game for us. We needed to come out and prove to ourselves we could overcome our losses. Dundy County is a good football team that runs their offense well. They have some very skilled defensive players that made this a difficult game for us. Defensively, we had trouble on their opening drive, but after making some adjustments we had a great rest of the game. Offensively, we were a little ugly early in the game. We eventually began to settle in and put some drives together, even though we a lot of times stopped ourselves. With less than a minute left in the game, Lane Hobrock came up with a punt block, which Jude Faulkender was able to recover. Brunk scored on the very next offensive play to win the game. We had to overcome a lot of adversity to win this game. It really shows the character of these young men and the love they have for the game. Hats off to them!"

The junior high football team will play Goodland on Thursday, October 6th, on Greene Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 PM.
