Lady Indians Win Two to Open Season
The St. Francis Lady Indian volleyball team got off to a good start Tuesday evening, September 1, by defeating the Golden Plains Lady Bulldogs and the Hoxie Lady Indians in the opening competition of the season. St. Francis and Golden Plains played very close in the first set with St. Francis leading most of the time but only by a slim margin. St. Francis held on to win the game by a 25-21 margin. In the second set, the Lady Indians got off to a quick start behind some strong serving by Aly Marin and Christina Hilt and led 13-2. Neither team played as well as they would have liked in this set, but the Lady Indians took the second game and the match 25-14.
In the first game of the Hoxie match, the Lady Indians jumped out to an 8-2 lead. Hoxie cut the lead to one (13-12) and tied the match at 19. Hoxie took the lead 22-21 but the Lady Indians rallied to win 25-22. The second game was very close as well. After an 11 all tie, St. Francis earned a 15-12 lead and stretched it to 22-17. The Lady Indians won by four, 25-21.
Golden Plains defeated Hoxie in varsity action 25-23; 12-25; 25-18.
In junior varsity action, St. Francis defeated Golden Plain 25-16; 25-15. St. Francis lost to Hoxie 20-25; 12-25.
The next action for the teams is Tuesday, September 8th, when the teams will be traveling to Colby to compete with Colby and Decatur County. Action begins at 4:00 AM.
