Volleyball Teams Complete Busy Week
The Lady Indian volleyball team was quite busy this past week. On Tuesday, September 8, they traveled to Colby to compete with Decatur County and Colby and on Thursday evening, the team went to Nebraska to play Wauntea/Palisade. On Saturday, September 12, the varsity team competed in the Gove County Fall Classic Volleyball Tournament in Wheatland/Grinnell and the junior varsity team traveled to Leoti to play in the Wichita County Invitational JV Tournament.
In Colby, the teams were defeated by both Colby and Decatur County. The varsity team lost to Colby by scores of Lost 25-17, 13-25, 19-25 and Decatur County by scores of 15-15, 20-25. The JV team lost to Colby 21-25, 9-25 and Decatur County 7-25, 8-25. The C team lost to Colby 16-25, 13-25 and to Decatur County 14-25, 19-25.
Wauneta/Palisade defeated the Lady Indians at both levels in Wauneta on Thursday. The varsity team lost to a good W/P team by scores of 13-25, 5-25, 20-25 and the junior varsity team was defeated 17-25, 11-25, 13-25. There were no C team matches.
On Saturday, the varsity team placed seventh in the ten team Gove County Fall Classic. St. Francis lost to Wheatland/Grinnell 25-16, 8-25, 17-25 in their first match of pool play. In the team's second match of the day, Wallace County defeated the Lady Indians 12-25, 25-22, 10-25. The Lady Indians then lost to Hoxie 24-26, 18-25. The Lady Indians defeated Western Plains 25-20, 25-10 in their last game of pool play to advance to the consolation bracket. In bracket play, the team then took on Lakin losing 17-25, 26-24, 19-25. The team avenged their loss to Wheatland/Grinnell earlier in the day by defeating them in the 7th place game in a close match 25-18, 23-25, 25-16.
The junior varsity team competed in the Wichita County Invitational JV Tournament. St. Francis lost three close matches on the day--vs Wallace County 23-25, 24-26; vs Wichita County (Leoti) 20-25, 20-25; and vs Garden City 25-22, 25-27, 5-15.
