Tilyn Wins Trip to Valley Forge
Several months ago, three freshmen students were winners in the AMVETS National Americanism Essay Contest. The students entered the essay contest as an assignment for Mrs. Gibson's English I class. The students were to write a 400 word or less essay on the theme: "What Does an American Veteran Mean to Me?" Essays were judged on originality, adherence to theme, and literacy composition. Winning first place (and $100) at the local level was Tilyn Bell. Second place ($50) was won by Kaitlin Figgins. Sam Reed won third place ($25).
These winners then had their essays proceed onto the national level for judging. Recently, Tilyn Bell's essay won first place in the national contest. Tilyn has been awarded an all expense paid trip to Freedoms Foundation in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania in November for a long weekend of youth oriented activities. Dynamic speakers and sightseeing are the highlights of this trip.
Congratulations, Tilyn!
