Season Ends with Loss at Meade
The 2009 Indian football season came to a close Saturday, November 7th, with a disappointing loss at Meade in the Regional championship game. Meade fielded a big, strong, and exceptionally fast team. The Indians fell behind by several touchdowns early and never threatened the Buffaloes in the game.
Meade scored twice in the first quarter on runs of 1 and 2 yards by Benear. Neither conversion try was good. St. Francis trailed 0-12 at the end of the 1st quarter.
Meade scored two more touchdowns in the second quarter. Hernandez scored on a 4 yard run. The conversion points were good on a pass from Benear to Hernandez. Hernandez scored his second touchdown of the quarter on a 7 yard run. Castillo kicked the PAT. The Indians trailed 0-27 at halftime.
In the third quarter, Meade again had two scoring drives. Hernandez scored on a 36 yard pass play from Benear. Benear ran for the conversion points. Later in the quarter, Davis scored on a 12 yard run. Castillo kicked the PAT. The third quarter closed with the Indians down 0-42 to a powerful Meade team.
St. Francis scored their only touchdown of the game in the fourth quarter on a 5 yard run by Cody Sherlock (conversion failed). Benear later scored for Meade on a 64 yard run (conversion failed) to give the Buffaloes a 6-48 win.
Meade will now advance to play Smith Center in the Sectional Championship game on Friday, November 13th, in Smith Center. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 PM. The only other NWKL team remaining in eleven man football is Oakley who advanced to play against Ellis by defeating Elkhart 50-0. Quinter, also from the NWKL, advanced to play in the semifinals of 8-man Division 1 by defeating Macksville 50-0. They will now play Clifton-Clyde.
