Basketball Substate In WaKeeney
Seeding Has Been Completed
Trego Community High School (WaKeeney) will be hosting the 2A Substate basketball tournament this year. The tournament begins on Monday, March 1st, and concludes on Saturday, March 6th. Participating teams include: Atwood-Rawlins County, Ellis, Hill City, LaCrosse, Oakley, Oberlin-Decatur Community, St. Francis, and WaKeeney-Trego Community.
The first round of games to be played will be the girls quarterfinals on Monday, March 1st. These games will be played at four different sites. The four teams with the higher seeds will host first the round games. The boys quarterfinal games will be played on Tuesday evening following the same format. The tournament seeding will take place on Wednesday, February 24th.
The quarterfinal and final rounds will be played at Trego Community High School in WaKeeney. The girls semifinal round will be played on Thursday, March 4th. The boys will play their semifinal games on Friday, March 5th. The championship games will be played on Saturday, March 6th.
The seeding for the tournament was completed on Wednesday, February 24. Teams were placed on the bracket according to rules established by the KSHSAA. Several teams had identical winning percentages and the KSHSAA tie-breaking criteria was used to complete the seeding.
The girls teams were seeded as follows: 1-Oakley (18-2) .900; 2-Hill City (18-2) .900; 3-Rawlins County-Atwood (11-9) .550; 4-Ellis (11-9) .550; 5-Trego Community-WaKeeney (11-9) .550; 6-LaCrosse (9-11) .450; 7-St. Francis (5-14) .263; 8-Decatur Community-Oberlin (5-15) .250.
The boys teams were seeded as follows: 1-Hill City (18-2) .900; 2-Ellis (14-6) .700; 3-Oakley (13-7) .650; 4-St. Francis (11-8) .579; 5-LaCrosse (9-11) .450; 6-Rawlins County-Atwood (7-13) .350; 7-WaKeeney (6-14) .300; 8-Decatur Community-Oberlin (1-19) .050.
The Lady Indians will travel to Hill City on Monday, March 1, to play the Lady Ringnecks at 6:00 PM. The Indians will host their first round game against LaCrosse at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, March 2, in the St. Francis High School gymnasium.
