Junior High Girls Defeat Oberlin
The junior high girls defeated the teams from Decatur Community on Thursday, February 18, in basketball. The games were played in St. Francis.
The A-team defeated the Red Devils by a score of 29-12. The Lady Indians only led by one point after one quarter of play (5-4), but turned up the defensive pressure in the second period to cause several turnovers resulting in easy scores for the hometown team. The Lady Indians led 15-8 at halftime. The girls played well in the second half and extended their lead to 21-10 after three quarters and cruised to a 29-12 win. Justice Wiley led the A-team scoring with 11 points.
The B-team won their contest with a great fourth quarter comeback. The teams were tied at 2 after one quarter of play. Oberlin led 4-9 at halftime and 6-11 after three quarters of play. In the fourth quarter, the young Lady Indians played much better scoring 13 points in the period to win the contest 19-14. Brianna Cooks led the Lady Indians scoring with 6 points.
