High School Track Teams Do Well in Early Competition
The St. Francis track teams opened their 2010 schedule on April 6th with the Dundy County Invitational in Benkelman, NE. The meet was interrupted by a thunderstorm shortly after the meet began. The meet will be re-scheduled if possible.
Hoxie Invitational
The Hill City boys won the Hoxie Invitational track meet on April 9th. The Ringnecks scored 123 team points. Oberlin placed second (89), Palco third (84), and St. Francis was fourth with 67 points. Individuals placing in the top three positions were: Matt Raile--1st in the 100 m (11.61), 1st in the 200m (23.41), and 1st in the long jump (20' 7 1/4"); Garrett Figgins--2nd in the 100m hurdles (17.24); and Alex Long--2nd in the javelin (145' 2"). The boys 4 X 100m relay team placed second with a time of 46.73.
In the girls division, the Lady Indians placed 4th with 78 points. Oberlin won the meet with 144 points. Hoxie was second with 119 and Hill City placed third with 96. Individuals placing in the top three positions were: Mikeala Grace--1st in the 100m hurdles (18.50); Sarah Trembly--1st in the discus (104' 6 1/2"); Jacquelyn Ketzner--2nd in the high jump (4' 4"), Jenna Hill--2nd in the 100m dash (14.31) and 200m dash (29.61); Kaitlin Figgins--3rd in the discus (81' 11"); and the girls 4 X 100 and 4X 400m relay teams placed 3rd (58.29 & 4:54.90 respectively).
Goodland Freshmen-Sophomore Meet
The Indian 9-10 boys team won the Goodland 9-10 Meet on April 12th. The boys scored 128 points. Limon was second with 92 points and Burlington was third with 80 points. The team had two first place finishes. Dylan Wolaver won the 110 high hurdles with a time of 19.29. The 4 X 100 relay team consisting of Brock Zweygardt, Ty Zweygardt, Thomas Douthit, and Dylan Wolaver also placed first with a time of 48.66.
Zach Gienger placed 2nd in the shot (36' 5"). Isaac Schiltz had three second place finishes in the high jump (5' 6"), triple jump (37' 4 3/4"), and pole vault (10' 6"). Dylan Peter was second in the 110 high hurdles at 20.91. St. Francis also earned three third place finishes: Matt Tygart in the high jump (5' 2"), Dylan Wolaver in the 300 meter hurdles (54.01), and Ty Zweygardt in the 100 meter dash (11.95).
The girls placed 6th in the Goodland 9-10 meet scoring 30 points. Burlington won the meet with 229 points. Hoxie was second with 56. St. Francis had no individual champions. Christina Schoenrogge placed second in the javelin with a throw of 86' 0". Jacquelyn Ketzner also placed second in the high jump with a leap of 4' 2". The only other St. Francis entry placing in the top three positions was the 4 X 100 relay team of Christina Schoenrogge, Taylor Archibald, Clarice Neitzel, and Ally Northrup who placed 3rd with a time of 1:05.18.
Triplains Invitational
St. Francis competed in the Triplains Invitational on Tuesday, April 13th in Colby. The day was a very windy day, certainly not ideal conditions for a track meet. The St. Francis girls placed 6th with 32 points. Oakley won the girls title with 141 points. Quinter was second with 89. Sarah Trembly was the only individual champion for the Lady Indians. Sarah won the discus with a toss of 101' 1". Jenna Hill placed third in the 100m with a time of 13.77. Mikaela Grace placed third in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 51.80.
The Indians boys placed 3rd in the Triplains Invitational track meet scoring 71points. Quinter won the meet with 99 team points. Oakley was second with 77. Matt Raile had an exceptional day winning three events. Matt won the 100m (11.27), the 200m (23.31), and the long jump (20' 1 1/2"). Alex Long won the javelin with a heave of 154' 8". Garrett Figgins won the 110 meter high hurdles with a 16.54 clocking. Cody Killingsworth placed third in the pole vault with a vault of 10' 6".
