Students Shine at NWKL Art Show
St. Francis art students entered some of their best work in the Northwest Kansas League Art Show in Oakley on April 8th and 9th. The students made an outstanding showing and came home with several awards. St. Francis students were entered in three divisions: Elementary, Junior High, and Senior High.
St. Francis third grader Shelby Wolff won "Best of Show" in the elementary division with her watercolor. The judge's comment on Shelby's project was, "great color and interesting design. Very eye-catching!"
Several other St. Francis Elementary students also received blue ribbons at the show. They included: Zach Koger- Fiber; Garin Cooper- Ceramic; Emily Elfers- Glass Etching; Seth Hart- Wood Burning; Audrey Meyers- Fish; Adam Krien- Ceramic; Jylian Laten- Mixed; Travis Rogers- Scratch Board; Reagan Beims- Watercolor; McKayla Rogers- Mixed; Teagan Landenberger- Mixed; Draven Houtman- Watercolor; Amanda Neitzel- Watercolor; Francisco Fernandez- Colored Pencil; and Kattie Wurm- Print Making.
Mason Schiltz, eighth grade, entered a string art project that won "Best of Show" in the junior high division. The judge commented, "Mason Schiltz's string art is both simple and extremely involved and complex. The piece indicates a neatness and craftmanship generally not present in middle school level artwork. The flow of orange throughout indicates an understanding of the principles of design!"
Students receiving blue ribbons in the junior high division at the show were: Derek Queen- Mirror Etch; Randee Grover-Acrylic; Mason Schiltz- Marker; Aly Schlepp- Mixed; Lennin Olivares-Wood; Gaten Copper- Colored Pencil; Derek Queen- Chalk; Jacy Hilt- Marker; Tyler Lee- Scratch Board; Lane Hoffman- Mirror Etch; Wyatt Landenburger- Ceramic; Erik Hart- Ceramic; Randee Grover- Ceramic; Jacob Butler- Ceramic; and Lennin Olivares- Ceramic.
Elena Paulsen, St. Francis senior, won "Best of Show" in the high school division with her pencil project. The judge's comments read, "Very nice pencil. Techniques; strong image and excellent craftmanship."
Students receiving blue ribbons in the senior high division at the show were: Kaitlin figgins-Mixed; Garrett Figgins-String art; Luke Guggenmos- Ceramic; Kaycee Williams- Marker; Alex Draper- Marker; Adam Guthmiller- String Art; Nick Smith- Tempra; Luke Guggenmos- Scratch board; Isaac Schiltz- Scratch Board; Elena Paulsen- Colored Pencil; Luke Guggenmos- Pencil; Elena Paulsen- Acrylic; Allison Grice- Acrylic; Elena Paulsen- Colored Pencil; and Brock Zweygradt- Mixed.
