5th Graders Enjoy Outdoor Education
April 27, 2010
The St. Francis 5th grade class spent two days in Estes Park, Colorado on April 22 and 23. The students left at 8:00 AM on Thursday morning and returned home around 11 PM on Friday night. While in Estes, the students enjoyed many outdoor education activities. Some of the activities the students participated in included: "Outdoor Adventure" (learning trust, leadership, teamwork and cooperative skills); "Ecology and the Water" (see photos of the students wading in the creeks looking for life forms); "Survival Skills" (students learned to make fire pits and discussed survival in the wilderness). The students also went roller skating, took an evening hike, and watched a wildlife movie about bears. There were about 400 students at the camp, but the St. Francis students had their activities separate from any of the other student groups. Good food and good fun was had by all!
School sponsors included Principal Scott Carmichael, Bruce Swihart, Robin Burr, Lynnette Nolan, and Kara Rodriquez. Also helping as parent/guardian sponsors for the trip were Steve Confer, Shannon Grover, J.R. Landenberger, Natalie Rogers, as well as Tim and Linda Koger.
Students participating in the trip were: Jenna Confer, Quinton Cravens, Danielle Frink, Ryan Grover, Joel Hill, Josh Koger, John Landenberger, Dennis Lawson, Kenneth Leibbrandt, Connor McBride, Jeremiah Neitzel, Makayla Rogers, Taylor Rogers, Katie Schmid, Trey Van Allen, Sophie White, and Taryn Zweygardt.
