Track Team Hosts Invitational
Matt Raile Sets New Meet Record in the Long Jump
The St. Francis High School Invitational Track and Field Meet was held on Tuesday, April 27th under blue skies. The day was slightly cool and a little breezy, but overall it was a nice day for the thirteen team invitational meet. Athletes from many schools turned in some impressive performances. The Indian boys team placed 2nd in the team standings scoring 86 points. The Lady Indians placed 9th with 23 points.
Matt Raile was a double winner. Matt leaped 21' 11 1/2" in the long jump and ran 11.88 in the 100m to win those events. Matt also placed 3rd in the 200m (23.90).
Three new meet records were set during the day. Matt Raile's 21' 11 1/2" distance in the long jump surpassed the old meet record of 21' 7 3/4" held by Andy Poling (set in 1996). Two other St. Francis Invitational records were also set. Wray's 4 X 100m boys relay team ran 44.33 to cut .23 of the old meet record. Tribune's Kellum Schneider ran 2:00.83 to set a new boys meet record in the 800m.
Garrett Figgins won the 100m high hurdles with a time of 16.47. Garrett also placed 2nd in the 300m hurdles at 43.46.
Isaac Schiltz won the boys high jump with a leap of 5' 10".
Marvin Miller ran 5:17.25 to win 5th in the boys 1600m. Adam Guthmiller earned a 4th place finish in the discus with a throw of 124' 4". Alex Long heaved the javelin 144' 8" to place 3rd.
St Francis placed three boys in the pole vault. Isaac Schiltz cleared a personal best of 12' 0" to earn third place. Cody Killingsworth placed 4th at 10' 0" and Darris Keller 5th at 9' 6".
The boys 4 X 100m relay team (Ty Zweygardt, Garrett Figgins, Drew Zweygardt, and Matt Raile) placed 3rd with 45.87 clocking.
Boys team scores: 1st-Burlington (96); 2nd-St. Francis (86); 3rd-Oakley (81); 4th-Wray (75); 5th-Tribune (74); 6th- Oberlin (39.75); 7th-Hoxie (31); 8th-Rawlins County (29.5); 9th-Brewster (14); 10th-Wallace County (13); 11th-Triplains (9.75); 12th-Weskan (6); 13th-Cheylin (3).
Mikaela Grace won the girls 300m hurdles with a nice time of 51.84. Mikaela also placed 2nd in the girls 100m hurdles with a time of 18.51 seconds.
Kaitlin Figgins placed 3rd in the discus with a toss of 96' 3". Sarah Trembly placed 6th with a discus throw of 92' 9".
The Lady Indians 4 X 800m relay team consisting of Aly Marin, Aly Northrup, Jacquelyn Ketzner, and Shayla Hilt placed 6th. Their time was 12:28.34. The girls 4 X 400m relay team (Aly Marin, Shayla Hilt, Kaitlin Figgins, and Mikaela Grace) placed 6th at 4:52.01.
