Longtime Educator Retires

Marti Schlittenhardt is calling it "quits." But she has earned the right to do so. As a longtime educator in St. Francis, Marti has seen many changes in the school system. She has also seen many different faces in her classroom over the past forty-one years. Marti began teaching in St. Francis in 1969 and plans to retire at the end of this school year.

Marti has taught several courses in St. Francis including German, World History, and 9th Grade English. Marti has been working part-time the last five years and has been teaching Kansas History and 7th Grade English.

Marti met Danny Schlittenhart during her first year of teaching. They were married during the the summer of 1970. The Schlittenhardts have two children, Jennifer and Kristin. When I asked Marti if she took time off when her children were born, Marti relied, "Three weeks."

Marti mentioned that the reason she has taught so many years is, "I love the kids and my job! It is very rewarding to watch students mature and become productive members of society." Marti has seen more than one generation of students pass through the school system and said, "It has been fun, and it has also gone quickly!"

Thank you, Marti, for all your contributions to the school system and more importantly to the children whose lives you have touched. We all wish you a long and happy retirement!

We'll miss you!
