League Art Show Reveals Many Placers

Forty students from grades K-12 came away with blue ribbons from the League Art Show held in Hoxie last week.

“I am so proud of the hard work all of my students put in. I work with a very talented bunch of kids and knew that we would earn a lot of ribbons,” said art instructor Mary Beikman.

Mediums from acrylic paint to string mosaics were represented at the show. “Good range of materials, skills, and subject matter. Some very talented students were represented,” said one of the judges.

Three students’ pieces stood out above the rest, and sixth grader Quinton Cravens, eighth grader Mariah Beikman, and senior Nick Smith earned the ‘Best of Show’ ribbon.

“I was very proud and I’m honored to be Best of Show this year. Hopefully I’ll do well at State and be recognized for my work, and maybe even make art my career,” said Smith.

Now, the art classes are on to the state show, held at Gross Memorial Coliseum in Hays on April 20th.

“I was really glad that the only two pieces I took to league placed. I’m a little nervous about going to state because I have high expectations, but I hope to do well and have a fun time,” said Fabi Baudet, a junior foreign exchange student from Switzerland who’s enrolled in art.

The elementary and junior high pieces will be on display at the library on April 18th, and following the State Art show the high school pieces will be on display at the banks.
