Junior High Track Teams Win Two Divisions
St. Francis Athletes Win Twelve Events
The junior high track teams won two of the four contested divisions at the Northwest Kansas League Track and Field Meet in St. Francis on Friday, May 13th. St. Francis won the 7th grade girls and 7th grade boys divisions. The eighth grade girls placed third and the 8th grade boys placed fifth in the team scoring.
7th Grade Girls
The seventh grade girls scored 144 team points in their championship performance. Quinter placed second with 83 points. The other team scores and placings were: 3rd - Decatur Community 80, 4th - Hoxie 57, 5th - Oakley 24, and 6th - Rawlins County 22.
Earning first place finishes in the 7th grade girls division were: McKenzie Taylor - 100 meter dash (13.76), 200 meter dash (29.52), and 100 meter hurdles (18.21); and Kylie Sherlock - triple jump (26' 1 1/2"). The 4 X 100 meter relay team of Emily Elfers, CarolEve Harris, Kylie Sherlock, and Kayla Reed placed first with a time of 59.21.
Earning second place finishes in the 7th grade girls division were: Kylie Sherlock - 400 meter dash (1:11.33) and long jump (11' 5 1/2"); Journey Lee - 800 meter run (3:14.73) and pole vault (5' 6"); and Kayla Reed - shot put (27' 8 3/4").
Earning third place finishes in the 7th grade girls division were: Hannah Wolff - 800 meter run (3:22.51) and 400 meter dash (1:19.79); and Emily Elfers - 100 meter hurdles (19.98) and 200 meter dash (36.45). The 4 X 200 meter relay team of CarolEve Harris, Journey Lee, Kayla Reed, and Hannah Stafford placed 3rd at 2:21.84.
7th Grade Boys
The seventh grade boys scored 140 points to win the Northwest Kansas League championship. Decatur Community was 2nd with 102 team points. Rawlins County placed 3rd (92), Oakley 4th (73), Hoxie 5th (54), and Quinter 6th 30.
Garrett Brunk won the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 18.00. Garrett placed 3rd in the 200 meter hurdles at 34.38 after falling during the race. He also placed 2nd in the pole vault (6' 6"). Carl Fabre placed 2nd in the 100 meter dash (13.51), second in the 200 meter dash (27.88), third in the high jump (4' 6"), and third in the long jump (14' 4 1/2"). Lane Hobrock placed 2nd in the triple jump leaping 30' 10 1/4". Jakob Church earned a 2nd place finish in the shot put with a throw of 30' 3" and 3rd in the discus at 84' 4".
The 7th grade boys 4 X 100 meter relay team of Jakob Church, Francisco Fernandez, Justin Pacheco, and Travis Rogers earned a first place finish with a time of 1:00.19. The 4 X 200 meter relay team (Austin Patton, Jakob Church, Francisco Fernandez, and Justin Pacheco) placed 2nd at 2:11.58.
8th Grade Girls
The eighth grade girls placed third in the NWKL Meet scoring 100 points. Decatur Community won the 8th girls division with 139 points. Hoxie placed second with 111. Rawlins County placed 4th (52), Oakley 5th (46), and Quinter 6th (41).
Earning first place finishes in the 8th girls NWKL meet were: McKayla Taylor - 100 meter hurdles (18.32) and 200 meter hurdles (33.57); and Dallas Reed - pole vault (7' 6");
Earning a second place finish was Valerie Wurm in the 200 meter dash (30.27). The 4 X 100 meter relay team placed second at 57.98 (Mariah Beikman, Echo Jones, Valerie Wurm, McKayla Taylor). The 4 X400 relay team (Aby Fernandez, Ashlee Orth, Mariah Beikman, and Justice Wiley) ran 5:43.40 to also place second.
Valerie Wurm earned third place finishes in the 100 meter dash (13.93) and pole vault (6' 6"). The 4 X 200 meter relay team of Kyla Bandel, Mariah Beikman, Dallas Reed, and Aby Fernandez placed third with a time of 2:14..97.
8th Grade Boys
The eighth grade boys were fifth in the NWKL meet. They scored 65 team points. Oakley won the 8th boys division with 102 points. Quinter placed 2nd with 95. Rawlins County placed 3rd (88), Decatur Community 4th (87), and Hoxie 6th (64).
Cade Bracelin won the shot put (41' 2 1/2") and placed 3rd in the 100 meter dash (13.15). Cade also placed second in the discus at 122' 1". Kyler Zweygardt won the 8th boys discus with a toss of 125' 4". Matt Howell placed 3rd in the 100 meter hurdles at 17.34.
The 8th boys had two relay teams place 3rd in the meet. The 4 X 200 meter team (Riley Shay, Tristan Archer, Tanner Gilliland, and Jonathan Hoard) ran 2:15.23 while the 4 X 400 meter relay team (Tanner Gilliland, Matt Howell, Jonathan Hoard, and Riley Shay) ran 5:55.32.
