The junior high football season got underway on Thursday, September 1st, when the Colby Eagles came to Greene Field to meet the Indians. St. Francis got on the scoreboard first with a 64 yard kickoff return by Travis Rogers. Justin Pacheco ran for the conversion points, and St. Francis took an early 8-0 lead.

In the second period, Clay Cassaw scored for the Indians on a 37 yard run from scrimmage. The conversion attempt failed. St. Francis led 14-0 at halftime.

Justin Pacheco scored the third Indian touchdown on a 41 yard run in the third period. Garrett Brunk ran for the conversion points. St. Francis held a 22-0 lead after three quarters of play.

In the fourth period, Garrett Brunk scored twice on touchdown runs of 39 and 62 yards. Travis Rogers ran for the conversion points after the first TD. The conversion try after the second Brunk TD failed. St. Francis defated Colby 36-0.

Coach Jeff Beims made the following comments on the game, "It is always good to get out of the gate with a win. It boosts the boys confidence, and allows them to get a taste for winning. Even though it was Colby’s 7th grade team, they had some good players. I thought we were aggressive defensively, and played smart, relatively mistake free on offense. We have a long way to go though, before any of us should be satisfied, and the competition will certainly get tougher."

The young Indians will host Rawlins County on Greene Field on Thursday, September 8th, at 5:30 PM.
