Junior High Football Team Loses Heartbreaker

The junior high football team lost a double overtime contest to Oakley on Thursday, September 15th. The game was a close battle all the way. The Indians took a 6-0 lead in the fourth quarter when Garrett Brunk scored on a 65 yard touchdown run. The conversion attempt failed. Oakley scored late in the game after a St. Francis fumble setup a touchdown possession for Oakley. Oakley scored again the in the second overtime period to win the contest.

Coach Kyle Buffington had the following comments on the game, "This game was one of those good ole fashion NW Kansas rivalry battles. The ball game went back and forth in a defensive battle until about three minutes left in the game when we were able to get on the board first. We then intercepted Oakley on their next procession, but fumbles were like a thorn in our sides in this game and Oakley recovered and answered with very little time left in the game. Finally in double overtime the game was decided in Oakley’s favor. Oakley has a good team with some talented athletes which made this the toughest game by far this season. It’s always tough to lose a game like this. The boys played their hearts out to the bitter end and fell short on the scoreboard but not as young men. I was certainly proud of their effort."

The junior high football team will play Oberlin in  Oberlin on September 22.
