Red Devils Defeat Indians in JH Football
The junior high football team traveled to Oberlin on Thursday, September 22nd, to play the Decatur Community Red Devils. The young Indians lost the contest 8-26. Oberlin used the pass to pick up some big yardage in the game, while the Indians had trouble sustaining drives.
Travis Rogers scored on a 38 yard run in the first period. Garrett Brunk added the two-point conversion.
Coach Kyle Buffington made the following comments on the contest, "This game was another tough battle. The score was not really a good picture of how the game went. Oberlin struggled somewhat running against us. They went to the air to beat us. They had three pass plays that went for some big yards. Otherwise, we played decent on defense. We struggled on offense. We as a team need to learn how to pick up blocks and hold those blocks longer. The potential is there to really be great and we just haven’t learned yet on how to block someone play after play to put together a long drive. We will figure it out though. This group of young men are hard workers and are certainly competitive enough to learn the little things needed to become good football players"
The junior high football team will play Dundy County in St. Francis on Thursday, September 29.
