Junior High Girls Split with Oakley

The junior high girls basketball teams traveled to Oakley on Thursday evening, January 19th, to compete with the Lady Plainsmen. St. Francis won the A-team game and lost the B-team game.

In the A-team contest, St. Francis led 8-6 after one quarter of play and held a narrow 12-10 advantage at halftime. In the third period, the Lady Indians scored nine points while they held the Lady Plainsmen scoreless. The Lady Indians led 19-10 after three periods. The Lady Indians went on to win the contest 26-16.

Scoring for the Lady Indians were: McKenzie Taylor 8, Kylie Sherlock 5, Journey Lee 4, Sydney Sundstrom 4, Emily Elfers 3 and Kayla Reed 2. The Lady Indians were 4 of 18 from the free throw line.

Stoecker led the Lady Plainsmen with 8 points. The Lady Plainsmen were 2 of 8 from the line.

In B-team action, the Lady Indians fell behind 4-8 after one period, and were down by eight (8-16) at halftime. The Lady Indians cut into the deficit in the second half but trailed 17-24 after three and 29-34 at the final buzzer.

Emily Elfers led the B-team scoring with 5 points. McKenzie Taylor, Katie Schmid, Kayla Reed, and Kylie Sherlock all added 4 points. Scoring 2 points each were CarolEve Harris, Journey Lee, Alexis Frink, and McKayla Rogers. The Lady Indians connected on 3 of 9 from the line.

Oakley was led by Selzer with 13 points and Zimmerman with 12. The Lady Plainsmen were 4 of 12 from the line.

The junior high girls will play Rawlins County in Atwood on  January 26th.
