JH Girls Defeat Quinter
On Thursday, February 9, the junior high girls basketball teams hosted Quinter in St. Francis. The young Lady Indians won both contests played.
The B-Team contest was played as a two-quarter game due to limited player numbers. The Lady Indians led 4-2 after one period. In the second and final period, St. Francis increased the lead to six (10-4) and went on to win 12-9.
Katie Schmid had an outstanding game for the Lady Indians, scoring 11 points and doing a majority of the ball handing. Sydney Sundstrom added a free throw to the Lady Indians point total. The Lady Indians were 2 of 6 from the free throw line.
The A-Team game was controlled by St. Francis from the outset. The Lady Indians led 5-2 after one quarter and 10-4 at halftime. In the third period, the Lady Indians used pressure defense to force some Quinter miscues and converted them to extra possessions and shot attempts. The Sainty lead increased to 14-4 midway through the 3rd period, and the score stood at 16-8 at the horn. In the fourth period, the game became close again, as the Lady Indian lead was cut to 16-12 with Quinter having several possessions to make it a one-possession game. The Lady Indians defeated a scrappy Quinter team 18-12.
McKenzie Taylor led the Lady Indian scoring with 12 points. Katie Schmid added 4 and Emily Elfers 2. St. Francis was 0 of 2 from the stripe.
The junior high teams will play Decatur Community on Thursday, February 16th, in Oberlin.
