High School Winter Sports Underway
Monday, November 18th, marked the first day of winter sports practice as regulated by the Kansas High School Activities Association. The teams and coaches will be working fervently in preparation for the upcoming seasons.
Wrestling
The wrestling team has 15 participants. Dylan Loyd will serve as head wrestling coach. Kyle Buffington will be his assistant. The young men out for wrestling include:
Seniors: Lane Hoffman and Matt White
Juniors: Shakota Blanka, Tanner Gilliland, and Kyler Zweygardt
Sophomores: Garrett Brunk, Clay Cassaw, Lane Hobrock, Blake Meyer, Justin Pacheco, and Phillip White
Freshmen: Ryan Grover, Joel Hill, and J.R. Landenberger, and Connor McBride
Girls Basketball
The girls basketball team consists of 13 young women. The team is coached by Susan Dinkel. Matt Bandel will be the assistant coach. Girls participating in basketball include:
Juniors: Kyla Bandel, Mariah Beikman, Justice Wiley, and Valerie Wurm
Sophomores: Emily Elfers, Journey Lee, Rachel Lee-Hopper, Kayla Reed, Kylie Sherlock, and Sydney Sundstrom
Freshmen: Jenna Confer, Makayla Rogers, and Katie Schmid
Erik Nelson and CarolEve Harris will serve as managers/filmers for the girls team.
Boys Basketball
The boys basketball team has 17 participants. Head Coach Jeff Beims will be assisted by Nick O'Loughlin. Boys participating in basketball are:
Seniors: Jacob Baxter, Wyatt Landenberger, Lenny Olivares, and Mason Schiltz
Juniors: Cade Bracelin, Nicky Easter, and Jon Hoard
Sophomores: Payton Beims, Jakob Church, Carl Fabre, Jude Faulkender, Francisco Fernandez, Wade Jones, and Travis Rogers
Freshmen: Quinton Cravens, Jeremiah Neitzel, and Taylor Rogers
Serving as managers for the boys team are Micheala Ford and Jason Owens.
Winter sports competition will open for both teams at home. The basketball teams will play Decatur Community in St. Francis on Friday, December 6th. Tip-off is set for 4:45 PM. The wrestling team will open their season at the St. Francis Invitational Wrestling Tournament on Saturday, December 7th, at 9:30 AM. The junior varsity wrestlers will travel to Goodland on December 7th to compete in the Goodland JV Tournament.
