Junior High Boys Win NWKL Championships
The 2014 Northwest Kansas League Junior High Track and Field Meet was held in Tribune on Thursday, May 15th. Ten teams competed for team championships in four divisions: 7th girls, 7th boys, 8th girls, and 8th boys. St. Francis athletes won two of the four divisions, earning championship finishes in the 7th grade boys and 8th grade boys divisions. The eighth grade girls placed third and the 7th grade girls fifth in their divisions.
Several St. Francis athletes earned league championships in various events. In the 7th grade boys division, Jordan Raby was a triple event winner taking the gold medal in the 100, 200, and 400 meters. Tayton Weeter won the pole vault. The 7th boys 4 X 400 meter relay (Seth Mosee, Tayton Weeter, Alex Queen, and Draven Houtman) also won the league championship. In the eighth grade boys division, Trayton Doyle won both the shot put and discus. Dalton Straub won the 200 meter hurdles. Nick Paulsen won the 100 meter hurdles. The 8th boys 4 X 200 meter relay (Luke Lampe, Trayton Doyle, Nick Paulsen, and Dalton Straub) also won gold.
In the 8th grade girls division, Zoe Sundstrom won the 100 and 200 meter hurdle races. The 8th girls 4 X 100 meter relay (Emileigh Dinkel, Zoe Sundstrom, Matthisen Witzel, and Jylian Laten) also won first place. Joslyn Ketzner won the 200 and 400 meters in the 7th grade division.
The Indians edged Rawlins County for the team championship in the eighth grade boys division by scoring 113 team points. Rawlins County scored 108.5 points. The other team totals in the 8th grade boys division were: 3rd - Wichita County 67, 4th - Trego Community 51.5, 5th - Hoxie 46, 6th (tie) - Dighton 42, 6th (tie) - Wallace County 42, 8th -Greeley County 29, 9th - Decatur Community 16, and 10th - Quinter 4.
EIghth grade boys placing in the NWKL Meet were:
Trayton Doyle: 1st in shot put (41' 9.5"), 1st in discus (114' 5"), 5th in 200 meters (28.13)
Jake Faulkender: 2nd in pole vault (7' 0"), 3rd in 800 meters (2:34.69)
Luke Lampe: 2nd in 100 meters (12.64), 2nd in 200 meters (26.69), 6th long jump (14' 8.5")
Luin Norris: 4th in 100 meter hurdles (19.94), 5th in discus (92' 0")
Nick Paulsen: 1st in 100 meter hurdles (17.68), 2nd in 200 meter hurdles (31.73)
Dalton Straub: 1st in 200 meter hurdles (31.71), 2nd in long jump (16' 2"), 2nd in triple jump (34' 0.5")
4 X 200 meter relay: 1st - Luke Lampe, Trayton Doyle, Nick Paulsen, and Dalton Straub (1:52. 38)
St. Francis won the 7th grade boys league championship scoring 129.5 team points. Trego Community was a distant second with 91 points. The remainder of the team standings in the 7th grade boys division were: 3rd - Wallace County 65, 4th - Rawlins County 56, 5th - Greeley County 47, 6th - Hoxie 39, 7th - Dighton 26, 8th - Quinter 17.5, 9th - Decatur Community 14, and 10th - Wichita County.
Seventh grade boys placing in the NWKL Meet were:
Cody Baxter: 2nd in 100 meter hurdles (18.53); 2nd in 200 meter hurdles (32.08), 3rd in triple jump (29' 7"0), 4th in long jump (14' 2")
Draven Houtman: 3rd (tie) in high jump (4' 4"), 4th in 200 meter hurdles (36.23)
Connor Keller: 5th in high jump (4' 2'")
Tiernan Poling: 2nd in triple jump (30' 8.5"), 3rd in pole vault (7' 6"), 3rd in long jump (14' 5.75")
Jordan Raby: 1st in 100 meters (12.73), 1st in 200 meters (26.31), 1st in 400 meters (58.46)
Mason Schmid: 2nd in pole vault (7' 6')
Tayton Weeter: 1st in pole vault (8' 0"), 6th (tie) in high jump (4' 2')

In the eighth grade girls division, the Lady Indians placed third as a team. The Lady Indians scored 58 team points. Decatur Community won the 8th girls division with 83 team points. Quinter placed 2nd with 67. The remainder of the 8th girls team standings were: 4th (tie)- Trego Community 55, 4th (tie) Hoxie 55, 6th - Wichita County 50, 7th - Rawlins County 48; 8th - Greeley County 43, 9th - Wallace County 26, and 10th - Dighton 24.
Eighth grade girls placing in the NWKL Meet were:
Reagan Beims: 5th in triple jump (26' 4")
Hannah Bracelin: 6th in discus (61' 7")
Emileigh Dinkel: 6th in 200 meter hurdles (35.69)
Mallory Mills: 5th in 800 meters (3:05.10)
Zoe Sundstrom: 1st in 100 meter hurdles (17.96), 1st in 200 meter hurdles (33.16)
Madi Tice: 2nd in 100 meters (14.18), 2nd in 200 meters (29.81), 5th in 400 meters (1:11.52)
4 X 100 meter relay: 1st - Emileigh Dinkel, Zoe Sundstrom, Matthisen Witzel, and Jylian Laten (59.13)
4 X 200 meter relay: 4th - Madi Tice, Matthisen WItzel, Zoe Sundstrom, Reagan Beims (2:14.93)
Wallace County easily won the 7th grade girls division with 105 team points. Hoxie was a distant second with 77 points. The remainder of the team totals in the 7th grade girls division were: 3rd - Trego Community 62, 4th - Decatur Community 55, 5th - St. Francis 50, 6th - Quinter - 48, 7th - Rawlins County 36, 8th (tie) - Wichita County 20, 8th (tie) - Greeley County, and 10th - Dighton 10.

Lauren Johnson: 5th in 200 meters (31.64)
