Junior High Football Team Defeats Greeley County
The junior high football team soundly defeated a much larger Greeley County team on Greene Field on Thursday, September 11. The young Indians jumped out to a 20-2 halftime lead and went on to win 46-8.
St. Francis scored first on a 20-yard roll-out by quarterback Tayton Weeter with 6:05 left in the first period. The conversion attempt was no good. Later in the first quarter, Weeter's pass to Jordan Raby resulted in a 4-yard touchdown. The conversion attempt failed, but the Indians were up 12-0 with 4:08 left in the initial period.
In the second period, a 12-yard scramble by Tayton Weeter resulted in the third Indian touchdown. Weeter also ran for the conversion. With 6:43 left in the first half, St. Francis led 20-0. With 20 seconds left in the half, the Indians took possession of the ball deep in their own territory. Weeter slipped on the wet grass in the end zone and went down resulting in a Jackrabbit safety. The score stood at 20-2 at halftime.
With 1:35 to go in the third period, Jordan Raby broke loose for a 45-yard touchdown run following some good blocking by the Indians. The conversion attempt was unsuccessful. The score advanced to 26-2.
Early in the fourth period (7:53), Greeley County scored on a 1-yard quarterback sneak to capitalize on good field position. The conversion attempt was no good. St. Francis led 26-8. Two plays later, Jordan Raby ran 47 yards to paydirt for the Indians. The conversion was unsuccessful, but the Indians now led 32-8 with 7:40 remaining. The next Indian possession was capped by a Raby 3-yard touchdown with 5:41 to go. The conversion failed, but the lead grew to 38-8. With 3:36 remaining, Cody Baxter picked up a Jackrabbit fumble and returned it 20 yards for the final Indian touchdown. Tayton Weeter passed to K.C. Krien for the the conversion points. St. Francis easily defeated a much larger Jackrabbit team, 46-8.
The young Indians will play Dighton, in Healy, on Thursday, September 18th at 5:30 p.m.
