Junior High VB Teams Split With Dighton

The junior high volleyball teams traveled to Healy, Kansas, on Thursday, September 18, to play Dighton. The Lady Indians lost their matches with the Lady Hornets. The A team lost in straight sets 17-25; 14-25, and the B team lost 14-25; 15-25. There was one game of C team action. The Lady Indians won the C team game 26-24.

The Lady Indians struggled to pass and serve well enough to threaten the Lady Hornets in either the A or B team match. In A team action, the Lady Indians missed the first serve of the game and fell behind 0-5 after three passing errors and an ace serve by the Lady Hornets. Aces by Lindsey Johnson and Karly Bandel, coupled with two Dighton errors, pulled the Lady Indians to within one point (7-8). Dighton scored the next five points to lead 7-13. St. Francis received aces from Teagan Landenberger and Shalyn Zweygardt and eventually pulled within one point (13-14) again. An inadvertent whistle seemed to break momentum, and the Lady Indians lost game one 17-25.

Game two again found the Lady Indians having difficulty successfully passing the aggressive Dighton serving. The Lady Indians earned their only lead of the day (3-4) on a kill by Lindsey Johnson. Soon, St. Francis trailed 6-16 after a long Dighton run. The run was stopped by a kill by Lauren Johnson. St. Francis served out-of-rotation on the next serve. The Lady Indians lost game two 14-25.

In B team action, St. Francis trailed 5-14 and 9-21 before losing game one 14-25. Game two was much closer early in the game with St. Francis leading 4-3 and trailing by two (10-12) mid-way through the game. Some good serving by the Lady Hornets quickly widened the margin to 10-16. The Lady Indians lost game two 15-25.

The C team only played one game, with St. Francis winning 26-24. A kill by Marlo Jensen gave St. Francis a 10-8 advantage. After some good serves by Audrey Meyer and Christina Stafford, the Lady Indians earned a lead of 18-12. Dighton tied the game at 20-all. An ace by Sierra Robbins moved the score to 22-20, and the Lady Indians went on to win the game 26-24.

The junior high volleyball teams will play Rawlins County in Atwood on Thursday, September 25.
