Homecoming Traditions Revived

Two homecoming traditions were revived for the 2014 Homecoming activities. The Homecoming Parade was one of them. It had been several years since St. Francis High School had held a Homecoming Parade. This year, the parade assembled behind the High School and made a pass down Washington Street to the west end of town and back to the High School where the Homecoming Pep Rally was held. The Homecoming candidates were featured in the parade along with each class float. Many community members came out to view the parade and everyone seemed to enjoy.

Another tradition that was revived was the halftime crowning of the Homecoming king and queen. For many years, the king and queen had been crowned at a Homecoming Pep Rally held on Friday afternoon. This year, the crowning took place at halftime of the Homecoming game.

The 2014 Homecoming king and queen were Erik Nelson, son of Randy and Brenda Nelson, and Kyla Bandel, daughter of Matt and Mila Bandel. Additional Homecoming king candidates were:  Shakatoh Blanka, Cade Bracelin, Jon Hoard, Ian Schmid, and Kyler Zweygardt. Homecoming queen candidates included:  Mariah Beikman, Ashlee Orth, Dallas Reed, McKayla Taylor, and Valerie Wurm. Crownbearers for the activities were Henzley Matthies and Tyce McAtee.
