Students Have Poetry Published

This past spring, the eighth grade (present day freshmen) English class students entered the Creative Communication Poetry Essay Contest. Almost 80% of the class's poetry was chosen to be published. Creative Communication is dedicated to promoting the arts and has sponsored student contests for over 20 years.  Students compete for thousands of dollars in prizes and to have their work chosen to be published.

Mrs. Holzwarth, language arts instructor, stated, "I'm very proud of these students and their accomplishments! It is a great honor for a person's writing to become a published product! My congratulations to these students!"

The published poetry is reproduced below for your reading enjoyment.

Dreaming of You
by Janeth Elena Perez-Medina

Dreaming of you is a pleasant thought
Receiving those thoughts that could be
Emotions building, even though I am asleep
Although, it’s just a fiction dream
My dream seems real to me
Imagination is what creates a dream
Never-ending dreams are life-lasting
Going through life, living your dream is magical

Fluttering  Butterflies
by Tress LaBarge

Being calm and quiet while flying by
Unique, beautiful, and looks like a rainbow
Trying to stay cool in the shade
Timing how fast it can fly by
Enjoys sucking nectar from flowers
Riding around in the cool breeze
Flying in all the fields around them
Lying in the warm summer sun
Yellow wings and a purple body

An all-star football and baseball player
Never gives up anything in life

Sports Workout
by Mallory Mills

Training in the gym in the morning

Open court in the summer for athletes
Never say never to the team or yourself

by Dalton Straub

Never giving up on what you do best in life

Tumbleson
by Dennis Potter

To my loving brother-in-law and my sister
Uncle and aunt of my future children
Monica and Michael are their names
Blessed and never forgotten by us
Loving to their kids they left behind
Equally loved by their children and family
Seth, their seven year old son
October, their eight year old daughter
Never lost, but in our hearts forever

My Meaning of Courageous
by Matthisen Witzel

Confessing I have fallen into my temptations
Overcoming the difficulties of being a teenager
Unifying the nations by spreading God’s love
Realizing I’m going to fail, but going anyways
All right with falling, because I know I will get back up
Grateful for the opportunities I have been given
Enjoying the life I have been given
Opening my heart to the Lord and his children
Understanding every challenge I face happens for a reason
Standing for what I believe in no matter what

An Action Packed Sport
by Luin Norris

Friends competing together to have fun
On the field we go hard to win
Off the field we practice hard
Together we beat our opponents
But without one another, we couldn’t win
All in it, to win it
Losing is not an option for us
Life on and off the field is very difficult

A Tradition of Excellence
by Coy Cassaw

Working hard on and off season
Resting after a hard and long practice
Earning my place on the team
Starting a tradition of extreme excellence
Thinking about how I can get better
Loving every single minute of it
Ignoring all the people who say I can’t
Not regretting one bit of it
Getting the gold medal after all my effort

My Beautiful Place
by Trayton Doyle

The sight of this beautiful location is like none other, and it is away from everyone.
My favorite place to go is fishing at a pond. Every time I fish, my mind gets cleared.
I go there every summer when the grasses are bright green and the warm nights are peaceful.
I love to see the reflection of wildlife in the water; it is beautiful.
I hear the birds chirping, the fish splashing, and the casting of my fishing pole.

   Being You
by Hanna Bracelin

Be the best version of you
Even when you don’t want to
Live in the present, not in the future or past
In everything you do, trust God
Everywhere your life takes you, know where you’re from
Venture out of your comfort zone
Establish lifelong friends who have your back
Simply don’t let life change who you are

Out for the Season

Sprinting Like a Champion

Placing in the top three
Running like there is no tomorrow
Into the blocks with butterflies in my stomach
Needing the focus to breathe and win
Testing my ability to work harder
Intimidating all the competition
Now is the time to prove myself
Going out and taking the gold

Competing for Greatness
By Luke Lampe

Competing with all my efforts
Obliterating anyone who tries to stop me
Many people use it everyday
People trying their hardest to compete
Everyone can compete in some activity
Taking advantage of my sport skills
I use it everyday in life
Trying to help win the game
I try to my best ability
Our opponents don’t stand a chance
Not everyone can contend their best
