Students Compete in Regional Music

Eight Qualify for State Contest

Eight soloists represented St. Francis Community High School at the 1-2-3-4A Regional Music Festival in Oberlin on Saturday. These soloists turned in excellent performances, earning six I ratings and three II ratings.

Qualifying for State Music Festival by earning I ratings were Jenna Confer, clarinet solo and vocal solo; Wade Jones, violin solo; Nick Paulsen, trumpet solo; Katie Schmid, vocal solo; and Sydney Sundstrom, trumpet solo. Receiving II ratings were Tressa LaBarge, vocal solo; Hannah Wolff, snare drum solo; and Taryn Zweygardt, vocal solo.

The 1A State Music Festival will be held on Saturday, April 25, in Wichita. The four-week interval between regional and state gives the students time to implement the suggestions for improvement that were made by the judges on Saturday.

"I was very pleased with the performances given by all these students," said Debbie Fiala, band and vocal instructor. "They spent many hours practicing with me and by themselves as they tried to perfect their 5-minute performances.
