Wrestlers Receive Academic Recognition

The St. Francis High School wrestling team has recently been awarded 1st team All-State Academic honors by the Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association. Indians making up this team include:  Coy De Waal, Garrett Brunk, Clay De Waal, Justin Pacheco, Ryan Grover, Kyler Zweygardt, and Shakotah Blanka. Coach Dylan Loyd commented, "This is an honor as a coaching staff that we all are very proud of. These guys put themselves through an awful lot as the season progresses. For them to practice as hard as they do, push themselves daily, and to be able to go home be disciplined in their diet, and maintain high academic standards is a testament to these young men’s character. The easy thing for them to do would be to put things off, but they refuse to do it and that’s a quality that will take them places in life."

Shakotah Blanka was also named to the 2015 Honorable Mention Senior All Academic team. This award is also voted on by the Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association. "I’m very proud of him for all that he was able to accomplish throughout his wrestling career here in St. Francis. This is something that he can always be proud of and something he can always use on a resume someday. Academics should always come before any sporting event, and I’m very proud of all of these young men," stated Coach Loyd.
