SFCHS Journalists Crowned State Champs

The KSPA State Journalism Contest was held on Saturday, May 2, in Lawrence at the University of Kansas where over 1300 students, representing 120 schools, competed for six trophies. SFCHS brought home the 1A championship for the third time in the last four years.

St. Francis individual results include first place State Champions: Mariah Beikman in Yearbook Copy Writing; Reagan Beims in Headline Writing and Design. McKenzie Taylor took second place in Advertising. Journey Lee and Kayla Reed were awarded third place in Yearbook Theme and Graphics; Jylian Laten received third place in Newspaper Page Design.

Honorable Mentions were awarded to Erik Nelson for Yearbook Theme and Graphics, Jude Faulkender for Academic Photo, Michaela Ford for Online Photo Gallery, and Wade Jones for Sports Photo.

Other state championship teams were: 2A - Chase County Jr. Sr. High School, 3A - Humboldt High School, 4A - Hays High School, 5A - Salina Central High School, 6A - Shawnee Mission East High School.

"I am delighted that the students' hard work was recognized at the state level," Brenda Day, publications adviser, said. "This was really a team effort."
