Citizenship Award Recipients Selected

Awards Assemblies Held

The Junior High Awards Assembly was held on Monday evening, May 11. The High School Awards Assembly was held the morning of May 13. Many well deserved awards earned by the students throughout the school year were presented. The awards included a wide variety of recognitions including academic , attendance, athletic, music, art, drama, National Honor Society, Quill and Scroll, FFA, 3-Sport letter winners, as well as several others. Tracy Weeter, representing American Implement, presented an check to the school from American Implement, and Shakota Blanka was awarded the Monsanto Scholarship Award

The most prestigious of the awards given at the assemblies are the Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) Citizenship Awards. Two recipients are selected from the eighth grade class and two from the senior class to receive the awards. The awards are given to the girl and boy who have proved to be the most outstanding citizens of their school. The KSHSAA only gives two awards to each school, one boy and one girl, each year.

The criteria to be used for the selection of the recipients are as follows:
Respect: 1. Shows respect at all times for the Flag, our National Anthem and the Constitution. 2. Shows respect for the students and citizens of the school and community. 3. Respects both public and private property. 4. Shows respect for the student and adult leaders in school and community. 5. Demonstrates a tolerance and respect for the beliefs and convictions of others.

Responsibility: 1. Demonstrates the willingness to assume citizenship responsibilities in school and community. 2. Works to build school pride through active participation in those projects which publicize, honor, or beautify the school. 3. Displays good sportsmanship whether as a participant or spectator. 4. Is friendly toward new students and encourages them to become involved in school activities.

Reverence: 1. Shows reverence, concern and respect for the well-being of others.

Lauren
Receiving school citizenship recognition for the the eighth grade were:  Wyatt Hilt, K.C. Krien, Jessica Confer, and April Fernandez.

Receiving the highly coveted KSHSAA Citizenship Awards for the eighth grade were:  Mason Schmid, Lauren Johnson, and Lindsey Johnson. (Two awards were granted by KSHSAA due to a tie in the girls voting.)

 

Erik
Receiving KSHSAA Citizenship Awards as seniors were Kyla Bandel and Erik Nelson.
