Eleven FFA members competed in four different events at State Career Development Events (CDE’s) in Manhattan on May 1-3. Contestants put into practice classroom knowledge and personal experiences to compete against other teams from around the state in contests that help them investigate agriculture careers and build life skills. CDE teams and individuals competing were ranked by their scores in each of the events. The highest 50 percent of teams and individuals competing in each event received special recognition. The highest 10 percent to be placed in the Gold Division, the next 20 percent to be placed in the Silver Division and the next 20 percent to be placed in the Bronze Division.

The Dairy, Livestock and Horse teams all evaluated their respective species and presented sets of oral reasons to judges for points. The St. Francis teams were lead by Matthisen Witzel and her 2nd place finish (gold division) and 1st place in reasons in the Dairy Evaluation CDE. Chris Hoard, Echoe Lennox and Janeth Perez-Medina combined with Matthisen to earn the Dairy Evaluation team a 12th place out of 45, silver division finish. The Livestock Judging team, coached by Marty Fear, placed 13th out of 82 and was in the silver division of a very competitive contest. The livestock team had three award winners with Garrett Brunk placing gold, Martin Beikman placing silver and Emily Elfers placing bronze.  Reagan Beims placed bronze in horse and Emily Elfers, Emileigh Dinkel and Makayla Rogers all placed well individually to help the team. The Vet Science team; Mason Schmid, Echoe Lennox, Emily Elfers, Reagan Beims and Emileigh Dinkel, competed well in a contest that covers many areas of the animal and vet industries.
