Minutes of the Regular Board Meeting – August 11, 2016

The meeting was called to order by Ed Marin in the administration office on the above date at 7:04 p.m. with everyone present except Derrick Tice, Shannon Grover, and Troy Hilt.

Cale Rieger made a motion to approve the agenda; the motion was seconded by Chris Bracelin and carried.

Items on the Consent Calendar were next considered. Following review of these items, Mila Bandel moved, Cale Rieger seconded, and it carried to approve the consent calendar, including the following items: 1) The minutes of the regular Board meeting on July 14, 2016, and of the special Board meeting on July 21, 2016. 2) The list of bills being paid on direct deposit slips numbering 0719039-0719045 and on checks numbering 10835-10844 on BANKWEST in the amount of $28,816.01 and checks numbering 11514-11608 on First National Bank totaling $145,099.10 for a grand total of $173,915.11. 3) The Cash Summary Report (including three transfers: $313.99 from the Supplemental General Fund to the Vocational Fund, $431.72 from the General Fund to the At-Risk Fund, and $46,705.17 from the General Fund to the KPERS Fund), the Grade School Activity Fund Report, and the High School Activity Fund Report all as of July 31, 2016.

There were no audiences.

There were no committee reports

There was no old business.

Next under new business, Superintendent Schiltz briefly reviewed the FY 2017 budget. There was no audience for the budget hearing. Following the brief review, Chris Bracelin moved that the budget be adopted as published in the July 28, 2016, edition of the St. Francis Herald; the motion was seconded by Mila Bandel and carried.

Superintendent Schiltz reviewed the proposed bus routes with the Board. Currently, there will be four routes, the same as last year. All of these proposed routes are still subject to change as more information becomes available.

The Board next considered approval of a contract for Steve Kirkham for the position of assistant high school football coach and junior high football coach. Chris Bracelin made a motion to approve the contract. The motion was seconded by Cale Rieger and carried.

The final seven non-licensed and two licensed contracts were turned in to the Board for signature; all contracts have now been signed and returned.

Also under new business, there is one new out-of- district request to attend school in St. Francis during 2016-2017. The request is from Heather Mahon (Haigler) for her son Ty Mahon (4 th grade). A motion was made by Mila Bandel, seconded by Cale Rieger to accept the out-of- district student. Motion carried.

Next, Superintendent Schiltz gave the Board copies of a report from Jim Phares from Millennium Sciences, who had conducted air quality tests in various rooms of the elementary school on July 9, 2016. The Board members were asked to read and study the report, and it will be reviewed at the September board meeting.

Under miscellaneous items, several things were discussed. Troy Porter and his crew were commended on the good job they did in tearing down the fort play structure at the grade school. The front lawn at the high school has developed a sink hole from the clay drain pipe collapsing. The city is working on fixing the situation. Several other on-going projects were discussed.

Also under miscellaneous, Mila Bandel made a motion to add Darla Raile to the Grade School signature card at BANKWEST, Chris Bracelin seconded the motion and it carried.

The next Board of Education meeting will be held on September 8, 2016, at 7:00 a.m.

At 8:24 p.m., Mila Bandel moved that the meeting adjourn; the motion was seconded by Cale Rieger and carried.
