St. Francis Indians force first regular season loss for Sharon Springs since 2011. The number one ranked St. Francis Indians defeated the number two ranked Sharon Springs Wildcats 22-20, Friday, Sept. 2.

ST. FRANCIS, KS -- On Sept. 2, the Saint Francis Indians football team won their first game of the season at home against the Sharon Springs Wildcats, 22-20. The Indians, number one in the state of Kansas, kicked off the season with a challenging game against Sharon Springs, ranked number two in the state.

"We were confident and nervous about the game, but we were excited to get the win." said Dalton Straub, Saint Francis junior.

Throughout the game, Saint Francis and Sharon Springs were neck and neck. By halftime, the two teams were tied, 14-14. The Sainty Indians ended up winning by a mere two points with a score of 22-20.

"I feel proud. The team did good." said Ryan Grover, Saint Francis senior. "Sharon Springs hasn't lost a regular season game since 2011, and we broke that streak. That means something."

This first win of the season helped substantiate why Saint Francis is ranked number one in the state.

"Great game, great atmosphere, great finish, great team," said Rodney Yates, Saint Francis head football coach.

The next Saint Francis Indians football game will be held Friday, Sept. 9, against the Titans in Brewster at 7 p.m.
