Jake Places In His First Competition
Saturday morning Jake Faulkender, junior at SFCHS, competed in his first varsity cross country race. There were 76 total participants in the 5k (3.1 mile) race held at the Tribune golf course. Participating schools included classifications from 4A to 1A from western Kansas. The race started with runners striding down a short hill that they would return to climb in a few short minutes. The race course lapped the golf course twice with gradual up and down hills throughout the race. Faulkender led the first half mile but was unable to hold off more experienced runners to the finish. He finished the race in tenth place with a time of 19:35. Faulkender is running for St. Francis High School in his debut season with Amber Faulkender as his coach.
