Jake Competes in Johnson

Jake Faulkender strode out to a personal best on September 24 at the Stanton County Invitational Cross Country meet.  There were 91 participants at the meet that was hosted at the Stanton County Golf Course in Johnson, Kansas.  With a flatter course than he tackled in Tribune, he was able to better his time to 18:35.36 for the 5,000 meter course.  Faukender earned a 13th place finish just under two minutes behind the leader and beating several runners that had bested him two weeks ago.  The invitational hosted 11 full teams and many individuals and partial teams from 1A to 4A in the varsity race.  For full results visit www.athletic.net and search for Statnton County Invitational.

Cross country is a sport that's only consistency from race to race is the distance.  Each course varies in landscape, running surface and unpredictable for weather conditions.  With so much variance from race to race it is difficult to compare times with previous races and to the times of other runners on a different course.  Cross country is both a physical and mental sport that requires the runner to go out and compete for placing more than time each race.  Faulkender's next cross country race is October 1st in Syracuse.
